Caregiver Support Groups
Support groups are offered to family caregivers and friends throughout
Durham Region. Attending a meeting provides an opportunity to exchange
information and concerns in a supportive environment with others
who understand. Meetings last approximately two hours and are facilitated
by our staff. View our
calendar to find a group near you.
Early-Stage Support Groups
Education and support is extremely beneficial from the very early stages
of the disease. For those in the early stages of Alzheimer Disease and related
dementia, this confidential group offers an opportunity to learn more about dementia,
how to addresss challenges that arise and be linked to services and resources.
Safely Home/Alzheimer Wandering Registry
This national program is designed to safely return home people who
wander. For a one-time fee of $35.00, individuals can be registered
with the Durham Regional Police and the RCMP. When an individual
is registered, vital information about him or her is stored confidentially
on a police database. Should an individual be found wandering or
reported missing, police anywhere in Canada can access the information.
For more information on this program, view Alzheimer Canada's Safely Home Registry page
or contact
our office.
Remember Me
We have books, videos and information for children and teens. We offer a
support program called
Remember Me
that provides information and support
to children aged 7 - 13 years.
At-Risk Driver Program
This program provides families and caregivers with an opportunity to
strengthen the safety net for the person whose licence has been suspended,
yet continues to drive.
The family and/or caregiver registers the individual in the program.
Police will identify the cognitively impaired driver on a confidential
police computer database. Officers reach someone on the contact list
to help facilitate the driver's safe return home. |
